January 5, 2020:  Second Sunday of Christmas

PRELUDE & CANDLE LIGHTING

WELCOME

*CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Mark 1:15)

The time has come!

The time is right!

The kingdom of God has come near.

We come to celebrate the nearness of the kingdom of God.

Repent and believe the good news!

We repent and believe the good news of Jesus Christ.

Let us worship God!

*OPENING PRAYER

*OPENING HYMN  #208  O Sing a Song

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Jesus Christ, God with us, you came proclaiming the kingdom of God and called us to follow you.

We have not always lived up to your expectations for us.  We confess that, too often we are:  --Impoverished of spirit.

Grant us the fullness of your grace.

--Wrapped up in ourselves.

Open us to others.

--Slow to learn.

Teach us of your ever-expanding truth.

--Proud over little.

Whet our hunger and thirst for justice.

--Distracted of mind.

Direct us to what is most important:  Your love for us, your will for our lives, and your sustaining presence in every circumstance.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.
