Hawaii Kai United Church of Christ

Worship Order for the Fifth Sunday of Lent

March 29, 2020

Facebook Live:  10:00 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time

We gather in this season of Lent to journey to the cross with Jesus,

knowing that death will give way to life.

We want to follow Jesus, who taught us to be alert and watch for the coming of God’s reign.

We want to learn from Jesus, and live like him.  We want to think like Jesus.

Let us worship God, who has loved us and saved us through Jesus Christ.

Let us praise God for the grace that has saved us!

O God, Our Help in Ages Past

Words adapted from Psalm 90 by Isaac Watts

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,

Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home!

Under the shadow of Thy throne still may we dwell secure;

Sufficient is Thine arm alone, and our defense is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame,

From everlasting Thou art God, to endless years the same.

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,

Be Thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home!

Lord, we have not kept watch for you.

We have occupied ourselves with our own concerns.

We have not waited to find your will for us.

We have not noticed the needs of the people around us.

We have not acknowledged the love that has been shown to us.

Forgive us for our lack of watchfulness.

Help us to wait to know your will.

Help us to look out for the needs of others.

Help us to work and watch for your coming.  Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING  Mark 13:1-8, 32-37

SERMON “Think Like Jesus:  Do Not Be Alarmed, But Keep Watch”

Due to privacy issues, we will not be praying for people by name during our online worship.  When we pray for members and friends of our ‘ohana, we pray to the God of love, comfort and healing, who knows each situation whether we provide the details or not.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

  • Please mail your offerings to the church office at 6650 Hawaii Kai Drive #102, Honolulu, HI  96825.  Checks only, please.
  • In addition to our regular tithes, we are receiving the One Great Hour of Sharing special offering this month. Please note “OGHS” on the memo line on your check.

  • Care Contact Groups have been formed so that we can remain connected during the time we can’t meet in person.  A caller will be checking in on you by phone sometime in the next week. It’s an opportunity to catch up and pray together!
  • Wednesday evening prayer meeting on Zoom.  7 pm hosted by Adrienne and Pastor Phil Mark.  Email the office or Pastor Janice if you want the details on how to participate using the Zoom app.

May the Mind of Christ My Savior

May the mind of Christ, my Savior, live in me from day to day,

By His love and power controlling all I do and say.

May the word of God dwell richly in my heart from hour to hour,

So that all may see I triumph only through His power.

May the peace of God, my Father, rule my life in everything,

That I may be calm to comfort sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me, as the waters fill the sea;

Him exalting, self-abasing—this is victory.

May I run the race before me, strong and brave to face the foe,

Looking only unto Jesus as I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me as I seek the lost to win,

And may they forget the channel, seeing only Him.
